Where are the Hot Pools, Ice Rink, Tubing Park, Day Spa and Cafe?

Tekapo Springs complex is located at 300 Lake Side Drive, Lake Tekapo. This is off State Highway 8. Drive alongside the lake and past the camping ground.

Is there carparking available?

Tekapo Springs has plenty of free car and bus parking on site. We also provide spaces at the top of our driveway for those customers who hold a valid disability card. These car park spaces are clearly marked. If you do require any additional support please contact any of our friendly reception team members.

Can I hire swimsuits or shorts?

Yes, swimsuits are available for hire, priced at $7 per swimwear item. We also hire towels ($5) and robes ($10). A refundable deposit is to be paid on purchase.

Can we hire ice skates in winter?

Yes. Skate hire and helmets are included in the purchase price. Our ice-skating rink is open from mid-April to end-August (weather dependent).

Can we use our own ice skates?

Yes, please note there is no reduction in price if you choose to bring your own skates.

Can we go on the skating rink without wearing skates?

No, skates must be worn on the rink. Helmets are compulsory for everyone on the ice rink.

Can we use our own toboggans or tubes on the snow tubing park?

No. For safety reasons you must use the tubes provided.

How long can we go tubing for?

Your ticket covers a 1 hour session.

What type of footwear is suitable for the tubing park?

Sports shoes or shoes that are warm and waterproof are best. Hard boots, such as ski boots are not allowed.

Are towels included in entry to hot pools? And what about robes and swimwear?

No, towels and robes are not included, but are available for hire. Hire is priced at $5 per towel, $7 per swimwear item and $10 per robe. A refundable deposit is to be paid on purchase.

Do I need to book to use the Hot Pools?

No, there is no need to book for the hot pools, however, we do appreciate that groups of 20+ advise us in advance as we can offer discounts for group bookings. Also, during busy times (summer / winter school holidays, public holidays) we do recommend to book your tickets as this will speed up your check in process.

Do you have private hot pools?

No, not at present. Private pools are part of our future development plan.

Do you have a cold pool?

Yes, we have two cooler pools: our Godley pool is 27 degrees Celsius and 1.8 metres at its deepest point. Our Aqua Play Area features a spacious shallow pool which is 33 degrees Celsius and 1 metre at its deepest point. There is an exciting play area next to the shallow pool with interactive water jets, fountains and showers.

Can I wear jewellery in the pools?

Our pool water is spring water with chlorine and should not affect your jewellery, however this is at your own risk.

Do I need to book the ice rink or tubing park?

No, however we recommend you check our rink schedule online to ensure we have not booked it for ice hockey or another event. When you purchase your snow tube ticket, you choose your preferred 1-hour slot upon arrival at Tekapo Springs. (Bookings for the snow tube are highly recommended for the July school holidays as spaces are limited)

Is there an age limit for the day spa?

The minimum age for a day spa treatment is 15 years old (not including nail art). Clients between the ages of 15 and 17 will need a parent or guardian to sign their consultation form.

Do we need to make a booking for treatments & what is the cancellation policy?

Yes, all day spa treatments require a booking, however, if there is availability on the day you can always book at Reception on your arrival.

When booking online, via the phone or email you will be required to provide full payment details and payment will be taken at the time of your booking, this is to ensure you do not lose your appointment.

Confirmation will be emailed to you at the time of payment.

If a cancellation is advised at least 24 hours prior to the appointment start time, a full refund will be issued.  If you do not arrive for your appointment or if you are late and the treatment will not be able to be fulfilled – no refund will apply.

For extenuating circumstances which are beyond your control such as road closures, inclement weather, accident or serious health issues, Tekapo Springs Glacial Spa will refund the cancellation fee upon evidence of those circumstances.

Can I buy gift vouchers?

Does the admission include access to all the pools and how long can I stay?

We sell a range of tickets that cover all our activities. A ticket to our hot and cooler pools (including Aqua Play Area) allows all-day/multiple-entry – just keep your wristband on.

Can I do both ice skating and the hot pools in the same visit?

Yes, our “soak and skate” combo pass gives you all-day/multiple-entry to our hot pools and ice-skating rink – just keep your wristband on.

Is there a required skill level for either ice skating or snow tubing?

No. Tekapo Springs has skating frames for hire for beginner skaters. Helmets are compulsory for everyone on the ice rink and are included in the ticket price. No experience is required for snow tubing, just a sense of adventure!

Can we use the hot pools and then return the same day to use them again?

Yes, a ticket to the hot pools (includes cooler pools and Aqua Play Area) allows all-day/multiple entry. Just keep your wrist band on.

What age is a child? What age is a senior?

A child is aged 3 to 15 years, and a senior is 60 years and over. Children under 3 can enter the hot pools (with a parent or guardian) free of charge. They will be required to wear a waterproof nappy – we sell these in small, medium and large sizes at the front desk for $3.00 each.

Is there a minimum age for the snow tube and ice skating?

No, there is no age limit on the snow tube (winter). However, there is a minimum height limit of 1 metre. The ice skating rink (winter) is available as long as the child fits the ice skates.

Are there secure lockers at the Tekapo Springs?

Yes, our lockers are $3 for up to 3 hours of use. There are free, open lockers inside and by the pools.

Are there changing rooms? Do the changing rooms have showers?

Yes, we have both men’s and women’s changing rooms with showers and toilets including disabled access.

Do you have a family changing room?

Yes, we have two family changing rooms.

Is there wheelchair access to the pools and changing rooms?

Yes, there is wheelchair access to the change rooms and their facilities. There is also wheelchair access into our middle pool, Pukaki, and our lifeguards are on hand to assist you if required. Tekapo Springs also provides an aqua wheel chair free of charge for assisted use only.

Are there BBQ’s available for us to use in the complex?

No, there are no barbeques on site. Our onsite, fully licensed café and bar has a wide range of food and beverages, including vegetarian and gluten-free options.

Can I take my own food or picnic into the Hot Pools?

Your own food can be consumed on the ice rink side of the main building, outside. We do not allow food to be consumed in and around the hot pools, in our café or on the ice rink or tubing park.

I’m pregnant, is it safe to use the pools?

Tekapo Springs advise pregnant women not to enter pools that are over 37.5 degrees Celsius (body temperature). Our Ohau pool is 36.5 degrees Celsius, our Pukaki pool is 37.5 degrees Celsius and our cooler pools range from 27 – 33 degrees Celsius.

What temperature are the pools?

Our pools range in temperature from 28 to 38.5 degrees Celsius. Fluctuations in water temperatures may occur due to environmental conditions.

What is the temperature of the Sauna?

The Sauna operates at approximately 80 degrees Celsius

What is the temperature of the plunge pool?

Between 8 and 12 degrees Celsius.

Are the hot pools thermal spring water?

No, our water is not geo-thermal in origin; it comes from an underground source near Tekapo and is exceptionally pure. You can read more about it in the “about” section on our website.

Do you add any other chemicals such as chlorine into the pools?

Yes, we use gas chlorine which works well with the Wapotec system to provide chlorine dioxide. The result is exceptionally clean water from minimal chlorine residual present in the pool water.

Will the hot water pools discolour my swimsuit?

No, your swimwear will not be discoloured from our pool water.

Can I safely put my head underwater in the hot pools?

Yes, our pool water is not sulphuric and is treated with gas chlorine working alongside our Wapotech filtration system, providing superior water quality.

How do I get to Tekapo Springs if I don’t have a car?

Tekapo Springs is a fifteen-minute walk from the centre of Lake Tekapo.

Other Activities in Tekapo Springs

Other activities at Tekapo Springs include ice skating from May until August and snow tubing from April until October (weather dependent). In summer we offer an 18-hole mini golf course (October – March). Our Glacial Day Spa operates year-round, offering massages, facials and beauty treatments. We also offer Star Gazing tours at night.

Distance from Christchurch, Timaru and Queenstown

Tekapo Springs is a 3 hours drive from Christchurch or 3 hours from Queenstown or just over an hour from Timaru.

Banking Facilities

Tekapo Springs does not offer any banking services on site but does have EFTPOS facilities and accepts all major credit cards excluding American Express. We also offer AliPay.

The website is not loading correctly?

Our website is optimized for the latest versions of all web browsers including mobile devices. Older versions of Internet Explorer are no longer supported by Microsoft and will not display correctly. It is recommended you upgrade to Internet Explorer 11 or higher. Please make sure you have the most recent version of your web browser to utilize our website. Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari all work with our website as well.

Does Tekapo Springs offer donations?

Yes, you can visit our Sponsorship page for more information and sponsorship requirements. Please note that in general we receive a high demand of sponsorship requests and are not in a position to donate to every event.

By entering our premises you accept the following terms and conditions.

As our guest, you need to be aware that there may be an element of risk involved in some of our activities. We have taken all practical measures to adhere to health and safety regulations, however you must accept all risk of injury, accident or property loss. You must also abide by all Tekapo Springs rules and regulations, both expressed and implied, as well as all staff instructions to ensure your safety and the safety of others. If you don’t adhere to these rules, you may be asked to relinquish your ticket without refund. Please note that Tekapo Springs cannot accept any responsibility for lost tickets or wristbands.

 

Supervision of children

All children aged under 14 must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible caregiver aged 16 years or over.*

Children under 8 years of age must be ACTIVELY SUPERVISED** by a responsible caregiver aged 16 years or over.

Children under 5 years of age must be accompanied in the water by a responsible caregiver 16 years or over at all times (within arm’s reach).

Maximum adult to child ratios:
– One adult to two under 5 year olds
– One adult to four 5-7 year olds
– One adult to one under 5 year old and three 5-7 year olds

*We adhere to New Zealand government law with regard to children under 14 years of age in that they must be supervised at all times with their parent/guardian onsite with them. This is the parent/guardian’s responsibility, not Tekapo Springs’ responsibility, and in accordance with New Zealand law, leaving children under 14 unsupervised may result in a fine for the parent/guardian. 

**ACTIVELY SUPERVISED means watching the child at all times and be able to provide immediate assistance. The responsible caregiver must be at close distance where they can see and be seen, hear and be heard by their child.

Validity of our tickets


Our tickets are open dated with the exception of Day Spa, Tube Park & Stargazing which must be pre-booked either online or directly with us. Our tube park time sessions are non refundable, changeable or transferable so in effect use it or lose it. All other tickets are valid for 12 months from date of purchase and are non refundable unless otherwise stated. Promotional priced tickets are only valid for the dates stated at time of purchase. Expired promotional tickets that are less than 12 months from purchase date, can be used as a credit towards a full priced ticket. The difference needs to be paid directly to Tekapo Springs on arrival. If you have purchased a ticket via a third party website or travel supplier, you must deal directly with them as the original place of purchase. This includes any date changes and or any refund requests.

 

Day Spa Terms & Conditions


When making a booking whether online, via the phone or email you will be required to provide full payment details and payment will be taken at the time of your booking, this is to ensure you do not lose your appointment.
