The inaugural Twizel Arts Festival brings three days of workshops, performances, exhibitions and markets to the heart of the Mackenzie Basin. Highlights include an open art gallery, pottery and weaving workshops, landscape photography sessions, and a community showcase evening featuring the Wearable Arts Show, Lakes Ballet and Highland dancing. A self-guided street art trail and a craft market round out the weekend, with plenty on offer for artists, makers, and visitors of all ages. Small town, big creativity.

A two-day multisport event where you can take part in 1, 2 or all three challenges to become a true Hard Labourer. Events include the 20 km Canal Kayak (the only time of year paddlers can use the canals), the Dusky Mountain Bike ride (16 km or 40 km), and the Pyramid Run/Walk (10 km or 21 km), along with several kids’ events. The Youth Hard Labourer returns, giving young athletes the chance to experience the challenge and achievement of becoming a Hard Labourer too. Proceeds go straight back into Twizel’s sport and community groups, making this alpine adventure as rewarding for the community as it is for participants.

The festival will be held on stunning Lake Ruataniwha at the Meridian Rowing Centre, giving patrons a world-class view while they enjoy their day in the Twizel sun.

An unforgettable open-water swim event set on the crystal-clear, glacial-fed Lake Ruataniwha near Twizel. Choose from three swim distances tailored to all abilities: the Top Hut Sports Bar & Bürst o 500 m, Twizel/Mackenzie Four Squares 1.5 km, or the Mt Cook Alpine Salmon 3.8 km. Entry fees help fund water-based activities and water safety initiatives in the Twizel community—making your swim as meaningful as it is scenic.

The fourteenth Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure Race will be held out of the small but stunning township of Tekapo, in the legendary Mackenzie Country.

34 – 170 km of incredible scenery as you loop Lake Tekapo on two wheels over a mixture of sealed road, gravel road, farm tracks, and river crossings.
