Tekapo Springs and Tekapo Star Gazing are located in the middle of New Zealand’s South Island, halfway between Christchurch and Queenstown. Tekapo Springs is one of New Zealand’s leading tourist attractions with hot and cooler pools with Aqua Play Area, steam and sauna rooms, ice skating, snow tubing, waterslide, café and day spa. Our complex is open 364 days a year from 11am to 7pm during the week and 10am until 7pm during weekends. Our times can vary so keep an eye on our main web page.

Tekapo Star Gazing is the only guided hot pools and star gazing experience in New Zealand, providing a unique tour in the heart of an international dark sky reserve. Tours operate 7 days a week; start times vary by season to ensure the darkest skies.

Tekapo Springs

Tekapo Springs is a destination not to be missed! With our prime location at the base of Mount John, we have unparalleled views of iconic Lake Tekapo and the mountain ranges beyond. We operate 364 days per year, from 11am – 7pm during the weekdays and 10am – 7pm during the weekends with a wide variety of activities providing something for everyone. HOT POOLS

  • 3 hot pools & 2 cooler pools, one adults-only.
  • Pure underground spring water (not geothermal).
  • Temperatures: 27 – 38.5 degrees Celsius.
  • Hot pools depth: 1 metre.
  • Kids Aqua Play Area with 2 cooler pools & interactive water features.
  • Cooler pools depth: 1 metre and 1.8 metres.
  • Steam and sauna rooms with cold plunge pool.

ALTITUDE 720 CAFE

  • Fully licensed with no surcharge on public holidays.
  • Indoor dining with open fire in winter.
  • Outdoor dining with lake & mountain views.
  • Wide range of food and beverages available.

GLACIAL DAY SPA

  • Four treatment rooms with lake & mountain views.
  • Massage, facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing & tinting.

Tekapo Star Gazing is the only guided exclusive hot pools and star gazing experience in New Zealand. The tour operates from the renowned facilities of Tekapo Springs, combining the stunning Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve with our soul-warming hot pools.

THE EXPERIENCE

  • 1.5-hour combination star gazing & hot pools tour.
  • First half of tour: introduction to night sky with stargazing guides and telescopes.
  • Unique blend of astronomy and story-telling with a focus on Maori mythology.
  • Indoor presentation provided if weather is unsuitable for outdoor star gazing.
  • Second half of tour: relax in a 37.5/38.5-degree hot pool on floating hammocks and explore the night skies at your leisure.
  • Hot pools portion proceeds regardless of weather.
